Houlton Maine Golf

Spring 2008

Dear Members,

Spring is once again upon us. It won’t be long NOW, the day we all
have been waiting for since October. OPENING DAY. With any luck we plan to open on May 9th. Time to get out and stretch, walk, and most importantly, dust off the clubs and slowly take a few swings every day.

Don’t forget to check out our web page. You will find a list of monthly and yearly events, list of rates, some GREAT pictures and much more. This web page will be updated monthly.

Brent Hammond is back as Greens Keeper and Ray Mailman is back as the Houlton Country Club’s General Manager. Mr. Babe Caron will be returning as Director of Golf and also advisor to the Tournament and Handicap Committees.

The Fourth Annual General Spruce Up Day is being held on Saturday,
April 26th. Bring your garden tools, paint scrapers, and SNOW BLOWERS and help us bring the course and clubhouse back to life after a very long winters nap. The club will furnish hamburgers, hotdogs, and beverages for your enjoyment. Come share your skills and have some fun while working together. Remember, many hands make light work.

Included with this mailing is the 2008 dues schedule. The dues will not increase this year and there will not be a membership fee for the driving range. With your paid yearly membership ALL members will receive two tokens for $3.00 and non members will pay $3.00 for one token. Please take advantage of the range. Please complete the form and return it via the mail or at the clubhouse.

For this year I have established a building committee to do a feasibility study on doing improvements to the club house and the possibility of constructing a multi purpose building. Rellon Powers is the committee chairman. If you would like to take part on this committee please contact Rellon at 532-2179. We would like to have YOUR input on where you think we should be going in the future.

The Ladies Association will be having their opening dinner on
Tuesday, May 20th.

The first Men’s supper and will be held on Thursday May 22nd.

The drainage ditch across the 18th and 6th fairways, which will help with dispersing the standing water in these areas, will be completed this spring. Also included in the changes is a bridge across the ditch on the 18th fairway. This bridge, donated by the Peabody family, will be known as The Thornton Peabody Memorial Bridge. Please bare with us, as we go through this construction phase. Brent has assured me that he will have the course in playing condition in a very short period of time after the construction is finished.

At this point in time, the area in front of number 5 green is being studied to find ways to disperse the water that continually lies there.

Remember this is your course, we, the board do not have all the
answers or ideas that will be needed to have a successful season.
As board members we would like for you to let us hear your issues
and concerns.
